Main Purpose

To set up and deliver profitable school and post school learning service projects at schools and post schools institutions to deliver against the Learning Services strategy for Pearson South Africa and Pearson Africa.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement innovative learning service projects focused on frameworks for consulting, curriculum redesign, qualifications, high-stakes assessment and professional development in schools and post schools institutions

  • Manage the project implementation budget, resources and quality of final delivery

  • Manage the recruitment, training and nurturing of resources required on projects and provide direction and support to project team resources

  • Manage the daily operations of large scale learning service projects and resource requirements

  • Monitor and track project deliverables using appropriate project management tools including risks and issues relating to project implementation

  • Manage project timelines against agreed milestones and delivery schedules

  • Operational and financial management, monitoring and reporting on all learning services projects including customerinvoicing

  • Manage the design and implementation of operational systems for learning services team and inter-company services

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to implement company-wide learning solutions that include a blend of different products and services

  • Build collaborative relationships with key customers and stakeholders in education to drive business development and ensure smooth project delivery and knowledge transfer

  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and sales teams to drive new business opportunities in the area of learning services

  • Work towards achieving measurable proof of efficacy of all learning services and foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making through embedding efficacy and research in strategy and planning, and in how learning services are conceptualised, developed, and delivered

  • Work collaboratively, innovatively and supportively of peers in the Learning Services team and colleagues across the service lines to drive excellence and profitable revenue growth

Core competencies: functional

  • An understanding of the educational context in South Africa (school and post school) and how the context influences project implementation.

  • Excellent internal relationships in Finance, People and IT

  • An interest in and an understanding of how technology can enhance learning

  • Experience in the implementation of learning services projects.

  • Strong project management skills (task management, people management, communication and awareness)

  • A positive and determined approach to researching and analysing new business opportunities.

  • Ability to use own initiative and pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to cope with competing demands and to prioritise tasks.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across business units, and with various internal and external specialists.

  • A strong intuitive understanding of other people and the ability to stimulate and encourage others as needed.


  • Currently a project manager in a business area or business unit, managing multiple complex projects.

  • Can demonstrate a successful track record of project implementation and commercial judgement in previous roles.

  • Understanding of and experience in the implementation of learning services, in the various market segments, and how technology can be an enabler.

  • Demonstrates collaborative skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Proposal and business modelling skills and expertise.

  • Experience working in both product and service based areas or organisations; ideally some of this with technology as the enabler.

  • Exposure to mixed channel sales, b2c, b2b, b2ps is advantageous.


Bachelor degree is preferable (such as BA, BSocSci, BSc, Bcomm, B Tech)
