Smarthinking, a Pearson serviceunit, is hiring an experienced, educated individual to serve as a part-timeonline lead tutor in Introductory Accounting. Smarthinking provides online tutoring tosupport colleges, universities, high schools, and individuals. Online leadtutors work to ensure the tutoring team is delivering a high quality serviceand with students at various academic levels as they learn accounting methods.

The Introductory Accounting Lead Tutor would manage the tutor teamsfor the Accounting (Financial and Managerial) program. The lead positionwould manage the program's administrative and operational functions as well asthe program's quality control and pedagogical standards.

The Lead Tutor reviewstutors' work regularly and provides thorough, concrete evaluations to each tutorneeded during each term and ensures all tutors receive excellent training andprofessional development.

The Lead Tutor isresponsible in assisting the program director in staffing synchronous andasynchronous services appropriately to achieve service level metrics.

The Lead communicatesregularly with tutors and handles general administrative tasks as assigned bythe program director. Tutor recruitment, screening and training ishandled by the Lead Tutor as needed in order to meet programstaffing goals (according to each term's forecast). In addition, the Lead Tutorassists in evaluating new programs/proposals as they arise by offering insightinto program management, pedagogy, resources, training materials, and newtechnology or technology enhancements as needed.


To qualify for this position, individuals must have:

  • Advancedcoursework or graduate degree in a business discipline.

  • College-levelteaching or tutoring experience in courses from Accounting Principles toAdvanced Accounting using U.S. GAAP standards.

  • Excellentinterpersonal and written communication skills and ability to troubleshootproblems calmly in potentially stressful situations.

Strong typing and computer skills.

  • Anenthusiasm for online education and a passion for helping tutors by buildingmorale and leading through a continually evolving environment as well as helpingstudents to improve their lives through learning.

  • Preferencewill be given to candidates with:

  • Teachingexperience in courses such as Introductory, Intermediate, Cost, and AdvancedAccounting

  • Collegeteaching experience in the accounting discipline using U.S. GAAP standards.

  • Experiencementoring or supervising adjunct instructors or tutors.

  • This is a remote position that will require tutors to workout of a location with reliable access to a computer and Internet.

  • Candidates must reside in the United States and, if hired,be able to provide documentation regarding eligibility to work in the UnitedStates.
