Smarthinking, a Pearson service unit, islooking for a motivated individual to join our team as part-time, AcademicCoordinator in Statistics. Smarthinking provides real-time, online tutoring andlearning services to high schools and colleges.At Pearson and within Smarthinking, we work to facilitate aculture of professional reflection and consistent quality among our teams oftutors. Tutors can work from any location with computer and Internet access.

As part of our commitment to excellence,Smarthinking’s academic coordinators manage their program's administrative andoperational functions as well as the program's quality control and pedagogicalstandards. The Coordinator reviews tutors' work regularly and providesthorough, concrete evaluations to each tutor as needed during each term andensures all tutors receive appropriate training and ongoing professionaldevelopment.

This is a remote position that will require the employee to workout of his/her home office. Candidates must have a computer, high-speedInternet access, and commit to working an average of 29 hours per week.Thisposition is eligible for Pearson employee benefits including health insurance,paid time off (including vacation and sick leave), access to Pearson’s 401Kprogram, etc.

Responsibilitiesinclude:

  • Trainand mentor new tutors through Smarthinking and subject-specific trainingprograms training programs;Trainand mentor new tutors through Smarthinking and subject-specific trainingprograms training programs;

  • Ensurescheduling is complete and adequate for each term;Ensurescheduling is complete and adequate for each term;

  • Evaluatetutors on a regularly scheduled basis, using approved evaluation standards;Evaluatetutors on a regularly scheduled basis, using approved evaluation standards;

  • Conductlive & offline tutoring as other Coordinator duties allow.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a master’s degree instatistics or a related discipline.

  • Post-secondary teaching or tutoringwithin the past 3-5 years.

  • Demonstrated competence in a varietyof statistics courses and topics, including experimental design, multiple andnon-linear regression, probability theory, and consulting.

  • Experience and familiarity with avariety of statistical software packages.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills andability to troubleshoot problems calmly in potentially stressful situations.

  • Strong typing and computer skills.

Additional Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Abilityto assess the instructional abilities and performance of others and offercorrect and constructive advice that facilitates professional development.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
