Smarthinking, a Pearson service unit, is hiring experienced,educated individuals to serve as part-time online tutors. Smarthinking providesonline tutoring to support colleges, universities, high schools, andindividuals. Online Econ tutors work with students at various academiclevels as they learn to become more effective writers.

At Pearson and within Smarthinking, we work to facilitate aculture of professional reflection and consistent quality among our teams oftutors. Tutors can work from any location with computer and Internet access.

To qualify, individuals must have:

  • Advanced coursework or graduate degree in abusiness discipline.

  • College-level teaching or tutoring experience inIntroductory Micro/Macroeconomic courses.

  • Excellent interpersonal and writtencommunication skills and ability to troubleshoot problems calmly in potentiallystressful situations.

  • Strong typing and computer skills.

  • An enthusiasm for online education and a passionfor helping students to improve their lives through learning.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Current or recent college teaching experience inthe economics discipline.

  • Experience mentoring or supervising adjunctinstructors or tutors.

Qualifications

Tutors typically work 8 to 19 hours per week on a set schedule each semester and during the summer, and they may work from anywhere they have high-speed Internet access. The ideal candidate will have experience in a majority of qualifications listed above, as well as: working in an online environment; working independently; degree, or certifications (Masters, PhD, etc); significant college-level teaching/tutoring experience in the relevant areas; consistent availability.
