  • Provide thought leadership on GED item development.

  • Support product development and assessment solutions.

  • Guide existing content and assessment staff on instructional practices to enhance assessment approaches.

  • Evaluate all phases of test development in including item writing, editing, content and data review sessions and test building; providing feedback for continual improvement of test development.

  • Represent Pearson and present at conferences

  • Evaluate and propose new processes to achieve content development objectives

  • Provide strategic solutions and innovative tactical approaches to a variety of challenges

  • Guide item development and conduct item-writer training.

  • Consult with team as required, including participation in planning, status, and other meetings,

  • Works closely with Test Development Managers, Content Developers, Psychometricians, and others within Pearson and affiliates

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Some travel required for project-related meetings as necessary.

Other Duties:

  • Review and edit stimulus materials to ensure that they form appropriate and rich sources on which to base valid test

  • Ensure that stimulus materials are of an appropriate length and reading level and that a variety of reading levels are represented in the item bank

  • Review and edit each and every item to ensure they faithfully measure targeted skills

  • Coordinate with the test development vendor to ensure that all test items are of the highest quality

  • Review fact-checks of items to ensure final accuracy

  • Review scoring of items to scoring accuracy

  • Ensure items are accessible for the widest range of test takers possible

  • Facilitate content reviews with outside content experts


Education, skills, and knowledge:

  • Degree in subject area or in education required.

  • At least 10 years classroom teaching and/or assessment experience in subject area or related experience in education or instructional design desired.

  • Proven leadership at a national or state level related to education and/or assessment.

  • Strong knowledge of best practices in assessing standards, instruction and professional development.

  • Experience in educational assessment such as writing and editing test items (questions) strongly preferred. General knowledge of large scale assessment practices required.

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to provide solutions to a variety of audiences including both sophisticated and naive customers. Experience leading meetings or providing professional development strongly preferred.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required, including the ability to adapt to unforeseen requests or changes in priorities.

  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and as a sole contributor; including the ability to provide unique solutions to simple, complex, and nuanced problems.

  • Documented research activities, including publication of white papers or publication of articles in education, trade, or other peer-reviewed journals or regional newsletters.

  • Experience in providing professional development activities for educators and/or other professionals, such as interpretation of assessment results, development of assessments for a variety of purposes, and instructional or curricular relationships to assessment.

  • An understanding and appreciation of business' role in public education.
