The Sr. Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration,and integrity of computer software. This position implements operating system enhancements thatwill improve the reliability and performance of the system. The Administrator ensures that the long-term requirements of the systems operations and administration are included in the overallinformation systems planning of the organization. Receives little instruction. Reviews methods andprocedures for applicability on new assignments. Demonstrates good judgment in implementingmethods and techniques for obtaining results. Recognizes when a decision is needed for problemsolving, analyzes the situation and makes independent recommendations and decisions.


  • 4-year degree from an accredited institution in MIS, IT, Computer Science or related field, OR appropriate combination of education and significant experience

  • Minimum 5 years of advanced tuning and managing of Linux operating systems; specifically Redhat and Debian

  • Web server management; specifically Apache and nginx ( puma)

  • Expert-level experience managing and administering MySQL databases

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools; e.g. ansible, chef, puppet, etc.

  • Experience managing and building on cloud-based web services and systems; e.g. AWS, Rackspace, DigitalOcean, Azure, etc.

  • Fluency in one or more scripting languages; e.g. Php, Python, Bash, Ruby, etc.

  • Experience as a team lead and delivering technical projects

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Ansible

  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose server security issues and performance problems and quickly implement solutions

  • Experience setting up and maintaining version control systems (SVN and Git)

  • Minimum 3 years of systems analysis experience including requirements gathering, functional design, and technical design

  • Customize WordPress CMS installations to align with marketing requirements

  • Write documentation to aid managing and troubleshooting website architecture and code

  • Maintain databases; e.g. re-indexing, query optimization, backups

  • Monitor the systems to maintain uptime and performance of websites and databases

  • Website, server, and systems troubleshooting

  • Administer and operate servers; e.g. analyzing log files, performance tuning, alert response, security review, user management, content migrations, etc.

  • Deploy websites and applications into testing, staging, and production environments

  • Provide developers with tools and systems to achieve department goals; e.g. development environments, log and error handling tools, etc.

  • Research new technologies and develop proofs of concepts

  • Architect, develop, and implement cloud infrastructure improvements
