API Platform Technical Lead



The API Management team fosters the Pearson Developers Network (PDN), a growing ecosystem of education technology where Pearson APIs, educators, third party applications and education technology businesses interact to reimagine education technology.


As a Developer Services, you will lead a team of Developer Support Engineers who are the subject matter experts for all things related to Pearson APIs. Your job is to craft the team into a consultative organization in addition to its support operations. This includes building relationships with existing and new customers and the developer community at large, creating service offerings that appeal to our market, and creating an agile, rapid application development culture in the team. You should have a developer’s background and thrive on the cutting edge of technology, embrace challenging issues, and love seeing exciting new applications and businesses that others are building. You should be able to think creatively about complex problems and identify solutions that keep your team moving on their projects.

  • Work with peers in the Pearson Developers Network and Developer Relations group to grown the overall program, add capacity for supporting more APIs and more customers.

  • Leading a team of Support Engineers as they work to help our developer community get started and stay moving with Pearson APIs.

  • Shape the team into an application development group, building fully functional sample applications, prototypes, and proofs of concept that demonstrate how to solve problems leverage our technology.

  • Drive self-service approach to developer support.

  • Be an expert resource on the role of APIs in business, especially education technology, for other units throughout Pearson.

  • Manage client relationships and be a primary point of contact for VIP relationships.

  • Create and lead training workshops on existing or new APIs.

  • Help Product and Engineering teams improve their products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API design, and testing new features.

  • Participate in developing strategies to improve API development life cycle and governance processes.

  • Support the development and management of virtualized APIs by creating API proxies and policies.

  • Hands-on experience in building APIs at scale.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a technology emphasis (e.g., computer science, information technology, etc).

  • Experience in leading a team of developers and technologists.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively, with experience in working with clients and many different teams.

  • Self-driven and able to execute projects with minimal oversight, with ability

  • Be a team player — you should want to be a part of a team, invest in that team, and communicate regularly.

  • 2 years of professional work experience with Web Services and API Technologies (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, HTTP, Node-JS) is required.

  • Strong web application or mobile application development experience.

  • Experience with education technology a plus, but not required.

  • Experience with Apigee, Mashery, or 3Scale is a plus.

  • Architecture experience on SOA, Micro-services, API, Container, Cloud native app, DevOps are a plus.
