Work in an analytics team that provides educational data mining services for product and content teams in the Global Product Organisation at Pearson.
Extracting, processing, visualising and analysing data (esp. on the usage of web applications).
Creating reports in English that help stakeholders make decisions about product development:
static reports (text, slides);
interactive reports (incl. data model and business layer, as required).
Personal and professional development.
Compliance with the company’s internal procedures.
Research skillsneeded for posing relevant questions, choosing appropriate research methods, and deriving step-by-step solutions to challenging problems (both individually and as part of a team).
Communication skillsand good written and spoken English for communicating with stakeholders and team members from diverse backgrounds.
Self-management skillsfor balancing the organisation of one’s work, efficient delivery of quality service to stakeholders, and professional development.
Data science skills
data extraction, processing and visualisation:advanced SQL (most common dialects); R (with Shiny), or Python, or other; experience with NoSQL and browser-based visualisation (e.g. D3, Highcharts) would be an asset.
cloud data processing systems:Google Cloud Platform (esp. BigQuery and Dataproc); experience with Spark and/or Hadoop would be an asset;
basics of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis;
collaborating on code(reading and editing others’ code; using Git for version control)
communicating resultsin an understandable and compelling manner.
Backgroundin physical sciences, computer sciences, or mathematics/statistics would be an asset.

Ultimately, we’re looking for a person who has a researcher’s mindset and is eager to work in education rather than someone who just happens to know SQL and Python. You’ll receive a small audition project to show off some of your skills, and we’ll be happy to look at, and discuss, your data science portfolio (previous analyses/projects).
