Background Information:

In this unique role, the Editor will be responsible for developing content that meets the highest quality, time, and cost standards. This is a unique opportunity to work on some of Pearson's best Higher Education titles globally, customize them suit to the needs of various international markets, and to see them through right from the content creation and development stage to their production.


Planning and developing the content commissioned for Global Editions; conducting and analysing reviews; editing the content; and transmitting the final manuscript for production.

Key Accountabilities & Deliverables:

  • Developing content that meets the highest quality, time, and cost standards

  • Assessing and preparing print and digital manuscripts/contributions for copy-editing

  • Working with contributors and editorial, production, and technology colleagues to deliver high quality publications, and their related supplements, in a timely fashion

  • Ensuring Pearson editorial/production management systems are kept updated

  • Establishing strong and clear communication within the Global Editions team and with Pearson colleagues around the world to develop content, track and manage project schedules, provide regular status reports, and to drive the assigned Global Editions forward at all times

  • Negotiating with authors, contributors, and reviewers; acquisitions editors; text and cover designers; and production

  • Checking cover designs and copy

  • Selecting, negotiating, and liaising with freelancers

  • Checking proofs at all stages

  • Planning, scheduling and preparing supplement packages

  • Taking a proactive role in driving a project forward at all times

Additional Responsibilities:

Key Challenges:

Maintaining the quality standards of the original US edition at all times; liaising with acquisitions editors to plan and assess the editorial work required on a title and its digital media; shaping the content to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Global Editions programme and the market requirements; managing relations with US authors and Global-Edition contributors and reviewers; managing schedules for multiple concurrent projects and tasks


Candidate Profile:

Core Technical/Functional Competencies:

Essential: Experience of working in editorial teams; strong content development and copy-editing skills; excellent communication skills

Desired: A background in an international publishing environment; experience working with teams from different regions/cultures; understanding of product development processes

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential: Bachelor's level qualification

Desired: Master'slevel qualification; a background inthe sciences/Engineering/computer science

Previous Experience

Essential: 0-2 years

Desired: 2-4 years
