Rights & Permissions Analyst / Senior Associate
Based in Noida, Delhi, India (with line management in the UK, working with rights and permissions colleaguesin the UK and India office).
The Rights & Permissions Analyst / Senior Associate (“The Role”) is responsible, primarily, for the rights management of all third party content(such as text, images, video, audio etc. as required) used in products andservices developed by the UK Higher Education (or other as required) businesswithin Pearson (and other business units as required), Ensuring that any thirdparty assets are copyright compliant and sourced in a timely and cost effectiveway, utilising and coordinating the services of outsourced resources on aproject by project basis and preferred sources and providing effective projectmanagement skills.
Principal responsibilities include Rights & PermissionsAcquisition/Research. All aspects of research, licensing and permissioning ofthird-party assets from project planning through delivery of finished productacross all media for different business units to budget, schedule and quality.
The Role will report in to the centralised Pearson Rights &Permissions group whilst working closely with editorial and content/product developmentcolleagues from within the Pearson business unit to manage workflows thatensure any products and services using third-party content are handed over forcopyright clearance, using a network of freelance and vendor basedservices.
The Role will analyse and recommend content for compliance with Rights& Permissions Group asset sourcing strategies, licensing requirements andPearson rights policies and strategies. As well as working closely witheditorial and content development groups, will also work collaboratively with production, authors and additional internal and external resources as requiredon costs, schedules, compliance, quality, and data accuracy. Use Pearson’ssuite of rights management systems for reviewing, recording and updatingrights data.
Role requirements include:
Adhere to andadvise on Pearson’s rights policies and strategies and copyright law
Driving solutionsto reduce rights-managed content, meet sourcing targets and simplify sources
Accountability,ownership and monitoring of all work business titles, ensuring appropriatesourcing of assets and facilitate requirements and /or replacements for riskassets
Assessment ofcontent briefs and project requirements for rights / permissions and work withthe business to provide asset clearance to milestones and if required provideor negotiate alternative solutions to enable products to publish
Consult withrelevant groups to develop realistic budgets and schedules, while driving costand time efficiencies. Attend all meetings and calls as needed. Prepare reportsand define actions.
Monitor allthird-party assets, new and re-used, to ensure Pearson Rights & Permissionspolicies are adhered to and projects are free of potential problems
Adhere to andmonitor budgets and schedules
Evaluate andresolve issues, escalating and risk projects and / or assets in a timely mannerto immediate manager and Director where necessary
Ensures and isaccountable for accurate, comprehensive and timely rights data records.
Manage rights andpermissions admin in a timely manner with various Pearson tools and systems.
Use standardizedresearch, acquisition, permission templates and invoices, and otherdocumentation for cost effective transaction processing
Generate a monthlyreport indicating key metrics, successes and issues
The Role will support any special projects as required. These willinclude but not be limited to:
Developing Pearson policies on the best practice of using third-partycontent and testing that new policies reflect copyright legislation are practical
Test and help support implementation of new tools and systems asrequired
Providing training to freelance / vendor and business stakeholder groupsto ensure compliance and understanding of Pearson process and policy
To review, develop and implement workflows for Rights & Permissionsactivity so that editorial and content development colleagues build R&Prequirements into their workflows
To work with colleagues from other parts of the Rights & Permissionsorganisation, globally to develop knowledge sharing sessions.
Qualifications :Education, Skills, Experience and Behaviours
Minimum of 3 years of experience with educational publisher or learningprovider (or equivalent) is essential, within aneditorial, rights or contracts roleworking on content and development of educational products.
Experience working with content development stages/milestones, costs andrisk constraints
Strong copyright knowledge, experienced of permissions management and/orpicture research
Project management, Intellectual Property/Copyright law qualificationsor certification an advantage
Excellent project management skills and proactive prioritisationabilities
Fluent and extremelystrong written and spoken English language
Strong grammar and communication skills – verbal, written and usingremote tools e.g. Google hangout, Skype style tools etc.
Experience of sourcing, buying and clearing images, text, artwork andmedia (video / audio)
Vendor / freelance stakeholder management – experience commissioningservices, tracking, monitoring an advantage
KPI setting and assessment an advantage
Essential database expertise—input, reporting, tracking & auditing.
Experience of Rights Management database systems tracking third party contentusage and rights a distinct advantage.
Advanced computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel,Google Mail and general office equipment as dictated by each position.
Undergraduate Degree or requisite experience, or a combination of education and professional training
Strong organisational and time management skills
Multi-tasker with ability to juggle projects and priorities
Strong interpersonaland business correspondence skills
Creative, ideas person who can suggest new ways of working
