The Content Development Manager role will manage the Melbourne-based team responsible for the development of assessment content, primarily for computer-based test delivery in Australia and Southeast Asia. This involves review of client item banks and conducting gap analyses, conducting stakeholder and focus group meetings, training of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on the item writing process, facilitating item writing and review meetings, designing the client-specific workflow arrangements and setup requirements for the content management system, and oversight of the overall item development process.

Key Responsibilities

People and Process Management

  • Developing staff in key areas that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Global Content Services

  • Ensuring that items and exams are prepared on budget and to schedule

  • Liaising with program and project teams to develop and manage the test development process, as appropriate

  • Identifying, managing and escalating risks to the Program Manager and other Testing Services leadership to ensure that solutions are found and high-quality examination items are developed within deadline

  • Reviewing and updating the methods and processes used to produce examination items to ensure that they are fit-for–purpose

  • Identifying process improvement opportunities and incorporating improvements into standard working practices

  • Managing all the documentation relating to the item production process ensuring version control is updated and that the total security of all materials is maintained

Test Development

  • Identifying and recruiting Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or subcontractors

  • Managing item writers and/or subcontractors

  • Training Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for item writing and review

  • Coordinating the process of fulfilling requirements for images, language translation and audio, if necessary

  • Conducting item writing and item review sessions

  • Reviewing items for adherence to client style and test specification

  • Creating exam forms that meet test specification

Technology

  • Specify the setup requirements for the content management system for clients ensuring that all requisite item elements are captured

  • Understand and advocate for client requests and propose future functionality enhancements in stakeholder meetings, if appropriate

  • Liaise with the Testing Services Technology and other teams on product enhancements, issues and training

  • Ability to investigate and assist in resolution of complex issues relating to software functionality

  • Track progress on enhancements and monitor software release status

Client-Facing

  • Conducting stakeholder meetings

  • Documenting processes and writing reports for distribution to clients

  • Participate in product demonstrations, requirements gathering, and other pre-sales support, when appropriate

  • Client training, including advising on best practices

  • Provide support for educational workshops for clients/prospects across regions that promote Pearson VUE test development products and services

  • Provide support for bid strategy process, including participation in high-level discussions to provide input and direction for Testing Services solution and implementation strategies.

Qualifications

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Demonstrated success coordinating and leading key large projects impacting cross-functional teams

  • Experience in the development of large-scale assessments

  • Experience in delivering training

  • Experience in facilitating focus groups and/or stakeholder meetings

  • Focus on and commitment to quality assurance and quality control

  • Ability to create new processes or evaluate existing processing and recommend improvements

  • High degree of comfort with technology, with experience of Microsoft Office products

  • Effective written communication skills to a variety of audiences

  • Tact and diplomacy

  • Self-motivated

  • Ability to work on several tasks at any one time

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field

  • Master’s degree in a related subject

  • Experience in a client-facing role
