Workforce Skills Contract Manager in London, United Kingdom

Job Title: Contracts Manager

Position Type: Full-time, Hybrid

Pearson is seeking a dedicated Contracts Manager to join our team and oversee the implementation and ongoing management of contracts related to T Levels and End Point Assessments (EPA). As a Contracts Manager, you will play a crucial role in developing a standardized approach to contract management across VQ and its supporting teams, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives and maximizing contract performance for both customers and Pearson.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage high-profile contracts for T Levels, EPA, and selected other contracts, establishing and maintaining effective structures for monitoring and controlling deliverables.

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project, quality, and risk registers and reports for contracts, ensuring realistic estimates of costs, timescales, resource requirements, and quality are agreed upon.

  • Identify potential issues or problems related to contracts, implement solutions, and manage contract changes effectively.

  • Liaise with VQ management, managing their expectations for contracts and ensuring lessons identified are captured and actioned.

  • Contribute during business development and tender phases, manage contract transitions or terminations, and play a key role in managing relationships with customers.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement for contract management throughout Pearson VQ, developing and documenting standardized approaches.

Key Activities:

  • Prepare and maintain realistic project plans and risk registers, monitor performance, and provide reports to stakeholders.

  • Monitor resources and costs against project budgets, manage change control procedures, and negotiate contract variations.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, act as the main point of contact for contractual queries, and ensure proper documentation and adherence to best practices.

  • Provide expertise and support for business development and bid teams, alerting teams to contract opportunities and managing contract exits or terminations.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in managing complex contractual arrangements and challenging customer relationships.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus MS Project Office experience.

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and cross-functional teamwork skills.

  • Experience in contract risk management, problem-solving, and best practices.

  • Strong IT literacy and understanding of technical/IT systems.

  • Good negotiation and influencing skills with a pragmatic approach and commercial sense.
