The lead of the Financial Controls COE is accountable for building and leading an organization comprising of controls experts who will be responsible for ensuring appropriate levels of risk management over financial and operational environments and transactions within those environments.

The VP will be responsible for defining, designing and assessing the Control framework that mitigates financial risks, financial misstatement and fraud across the key financially relevant processes (Fixed Assets, Hire to Retire, Order to Cash, Purchase to Pay, Project Accounting, Record to Report, Supply Chain Management, Treasury/Cash Management, Rights & Royalties, Tax) including SOX controls, in partnership with business/global process owners.

The VP will lead the global second line of defence model, directly supporting the finance function, business operations, and senior management. They will be responsible for providing an overall opinion on adequacy of controls supporting financial processes and essential guidance to senior management and key process owners. The VP will also support continuous improvement special projects and work efforts around financial risk and controls monitoring.

The role will report to the SVP of Finance Operations but will also be directly accountable to the Pearson Control Steering Committee, a group which will have direct oversight of all control environments supported by the Financial Controls COE as well as the ITGC COE.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience of applying internal controls in a senior finance role.

  • Deep Understanding of financial control,

  • Fluent English speaker

  • Experience working in a multi-national matrix organization.

  • Strong understanding of materiality and ability to prioritize across competing agendas

  • Deep accounting knowledge.

  • Ability to identify business risks and implementation of tactics to mitigate

  • Understanding of process design and optimization and experience of working in this areas.

  • Awareness of multiple business models and experience of working with more than one.

  • Proven capability to develop and lead high performance diverse teams.

  • Understanding of finance specialist areas: tax, treasury, M&A, compliance, corporate governance and ability to utilize proper judgement to assess them as necessary.

  • Understand the principles of change management and demonstrated ability to champion and drive change.

  • Participation in international projects, may be short or long term (preferred but not required)
