About the role

This is a uniqueopportunity to join the team with responsibilities in creating and driving the globalSupplier Relationship Management Program. This new team reports to the VP SupplierRelationship and Contract Management and will work extensively with theProcurement category leads and business stakeholders as well as supplieraccount management teams. The candidate will contribute to the creation of anenterprise-wide Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program includingoverarching governance, treatment framework and procurement policy in order forPearson to best leverage our supplier relationships, purchasing power andoptimize our vendor partnership potential and business growth opportunities.

TheManager/Directorof theProcurement SRM Program will build strong relationships with the global ProcurementCategory Leads, supplier relationship stakeholders, as well as suppliers toensure the delivery of a successful SRM program. This person will beresponsible for (but not limited to) the following activities:

  • Proactivelyengage with and seek feedback from supplier and internal stakeholders, takingownership of vendor communication to improve buy/sell side dynamics, supplierperformance and relationship satisfaction.

Responsibilities shall include:

  • Evaluation: Supportdue diligence needed to establish current relationship and supplier performancebaseline through (external) Voice of Supplier Survey and (internal) SRM survey.

  • Classification:Build and facilitate supplier classification model to segment vendors bystrategic potential to ensure appropriate resources and suggested treatmentstrategy support our relationship objectives.

  • GovernanceDesign: Actively contribute to the design of the ‘future’ SRM program: identifyvalue opportunities that align to the Pearson, Operations and Procurementobjectives. Ensure appropriate engagement and resource level is assigned toeach supplier segment population.

  • PerformanceManagement: Determine critical metrics to track supplier performance,communicate expectations to suppliers, facilitate on going performance /improvement plans and escalate as needed. Create action plans and necessarysupporting tools to remediate supplier issues (i.e. variations to contract,performance, disputes, conflicts and opportunities).

  • Collaboration:Implement supplier treatment plans in partnership with relationship managers,manage communication with supplier side stakeholders and ensure successfulgrowth of supplier population under SRM program. Achieve ‘customer of choicestatus’ with Tier 1 suppliers, articulate our innovation needs, and facilitatea means to capture, review/consider and respond to supplier proposals

  • Implementation:Drive internal momentum and stakeholder engagement in SRM pilot launch and subsequentimplementation of program. Proactivelyengage with and seek feedback from supplier and internal stakeholders, takingownership of vendor communication to improve buy/sell side dynamics, supplierperformance and relationship satisfaction.

  • RiskManagement: Strategize for and ensure appropriate measures are taken tomitigate against financial, reputational, legal, and performance risk exposure.

  • Escalateissues and risks in a timely manner

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Outstandingcommunications skills: verbal, written and presentation

  • Changemanagement experience

  • Demonstratestrong interpersonal and relationship development skills

  • Supplierand/or service delivery management experience

  • Ability todrive strategic discussions, and engage senior population of organization

  • Excellentbusiness and commercial acumen, proven track record of improving commercialoutcomes and value add services

  • Ability towork through competing priorities and influence desired outcomes

  • Projectmanagement experience

  • Strongproblem solving ability and change management knowledge.

  • Promotes teamworkand inclusion; acts as leader to junior team members

  • Demonstratedknowledge of effective risk management including protecting the organization’sreputation.

  • Proactivemindset balanced with appropriate escalation and upward managementcommunication

Qualifications

Qualifications&Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years work experience in vendormanagement, procurement or related area (global organization preferred)

  • Experience managing service delivery and performancemanagement for $M vendor relationships

  • Able to maintain an impartial high level viewof business objectives while remaining results and outcome focused.

  • Experience working in a global corporateenvironment with a matrix management structure is desirable.

  • Relevant degree or professionalcertifications in any area within operations is desirable.
