The Service Delivery team is a newly formed dynamic, fast movingagile team supporting all parts of our UK Higher Education business toidentify, win and deliver with excellence, services and products that supportteaching and learning in a blended or online environment, against an agreed setof strategic priorities and growth opportunities. In 2017 the team will besupporting revenue targets in excess of £17m. These products and servicesinclude but are not limited to:

  • Onlineand blended course design and development.

  • Custompublishing, content licencing and institutional publishing.

  • Digitalproduct training, and technology solution deployment.

Working with all Higher EducationBusiness units , the ServiceDevelopment Manager will be responsible for supporting Product Owners and strategicleads to shape opportunities, in line with the Product Development Lifecycle. TheService Development Manager will have particular accountability for creatingand executing the necessary market research and development plan, shaping theproposal, pricing and businesses model for presentation and sign off atrelevant stage/gate review meetings. TheService Development Manager will also support product owners on development ofsuccessful market launch plans including good engagement with wider marketing,sales and implementation teams. The Service Development Manager forms a keypart of the wider Service Delivery team and plays a crucial role in individual matrixproject teams working closely with sales, business development, marketing,product and production colleagues with a common purpose and aligned goals todeliver against a clearly defined proposition.

Main Accountabilities

  • Work with the relevant product/business owner across all HE Business units to define the opportunity, identify the customer/learner problems to be solved, test the riskiest assumptions and develop the most commercially attractive and efficacious product/service

  • Support business leads in seeking out commercial opportunities that will allow us to accelerate the growth of our Higher Education business in the UK and manage an agreed pipeline of in-scope products and services, using the Product Lifecycle framework from idea through opportunity development and on to successful delivery.

  • Gather customer insights and develop sophisticated and agile market development plans to support service development; understand existing customer/competitor solutions in detail. Conduct market research interviews, pilot activities, NPS surveys and succinctly analyse findings

  • Use contemporary tools and techniques such as personas, customer journeys, value canvases, business model canvases, emotion mapping, ecosystem mapping, proto-typing to improve service development

  • Support product owners on development of successful market launch plans including good engagement with wider marketing, sales and implementation teams.

Required skills and experience

This is anexperienced role with a minimum of 5- 8 years in a Product Development, Marketing Manager or Market Development Managerrole.

Specificallythe successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • Skilled ability in the use of market research techniques such as surveys, focus groups, questionnaire design, observations etc. ideally certified with relevant market research qualification

  • Strong experience in product/services design, solutioning, positioning, pricing, value proposition creation and competitive analysis

  • Experience working directly with customers, building relationships and developing communities both in person and online

  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, both written and oral, and proven experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders. Able to work effectively in a heavily cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong strategic and commercial judgement and excellent organisational and analytical skills

  • Able to use own initiative and judgement, and take appropriate decisions

  • Resilient and energetic

  • Good understanding of the UK Higher Education sector, and government policy for Higher Education a bonus.


  • Experience in a Product Development, MarketingManager or Market Development Manager role.

  • Service and product design experience, ideally within the education sector

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Proficient in Microsoft office, in particular strong Excel skills for data and market analysis

  • Willingness to travel

  • Likely to have experiencein business development, product management and marketing, with a focus ondigital and blended solutions
