Learning Applications is a product portfolio within Pearson’s Higher Ed digital product group. Learning Applications are discrete, end-to-end products that provide value anytime, anywhere by increasing confidence & outcomes associated with a specific learning activity or skill and benefit multiple disciplines in a standalone or integrated capacity.
The Learning Applications category is focused on innovation, specifically delivering consumer-grade applications via digital means (mobile, desktop, etc.) quickly to address newly evolving needs of students and instructors. As the number and usage of Learning Applications is growing, an immediate priority is to improve and increase usage of our existing portfolio, while planning and laying a strong foundation for future Learning Applications.
This means a modular, flexible, and interoperable approach is required of Learning Applications. Seamless integration with student workflow, whether integrating with an LMS or consumer software, will enhance Learning Applications’ - and consequently Pearson’s - value. Offering Learning Applications via a variety of use cases and contexts enables Pearson to explore new product models to better serve customers in a wide range of markets around the world.
The Role: The Learning Applications team comprises a number of products that addspecific instructional value, either on their own or alongside other Pearsonproducts. Product Managers are directly responsible for 1 or more of theseindependent applications, including identifying, incubating, and leadinginnovative product ideas through to launch and subsequent delivery of long-termvalue. As part of the broader Learning Applications team, Product Managers alsoare expected to think and connect beyond their individual products – to lookacross products, work with third parties, and drive connections with otherteams across Pearson.
The Candidate: We are seeking a candidate who has abackground in product management and has demonstrated a passionate interest inworking alongside customers throughout the entire product development process.The person thrives in a highly collaborative environment and wants to rethinkhigher education. We’re looking for a Product Manager to partner with engineersand designers to develop great solutions.
Be the product owner of one or more products inthe Learning Applications portfolio, some new and some still in the idea phase
Lead activities across the product lifecycleincluding product vision, strategy, development, planning and execution
Optimize features and content for teaching /learning experience based on data as well as learning design and customerfeedback
Work collaboratively with customers (instructors,students) and members of the Learning Applications team as well as sales,editorial, engineering, quality assurance, architecture, design, other productteams, and project management on opportunities to accelerate growth
Synthesize customer insights from multiplesources and own the subsequent product strategy and feature prioritizationbased on inputs from customers, markets, and segments
Use qualitative and customer research and dataanalysis to communicate product vision to senior management and variousstakeholders
Manage all aspects related to product pricing andpositioning, especially being the protector/steward of the product’s valueproposition
Identify and evaluate new opportunities forinnovation within the Learning Applications portfolio, through externalresearch and internal input
Explore cross-category opportunities toaccelerate product development through application of the Pearson ProductLifecycle (PLC) and Product Creation Framework (PCF)
Provide guidance and identify opportunitiesacross the Learning Applications portfolio for product contributionoptimization, including pricing, business models and positioning
Collaborate with the Learning ApplicationsPlatform Product Manager to leverage common components to accelerate producttesting, iterations based on customer feedback, subsequent launch, andrefinements
Work with other Learning Applications productmanagers to establish key metrics to support continual optimization of theproduct portfolio including product usage, customer satisfaction and marketshare
Qualifications and experience required:

●Prior experience working as a Product Manager ina start-up and a large enterprise, and can apply the best of both worlds totheir activities
●Able to create connected communities ofindividuals who previously were not familiar to each other and establishon-going dialogue and participation
●Self-motivated with an appreciation for thebalance between innovation and commercial needs
●Excellent writing and presentation skills tosenior management and stakeholders, with the ability to lead meetings andinitiatives
●Experience in working with a highly experimentalportfolio (e.g. launch, fail and then apply lessons learned to relentlessly tryagain)
●Solid understanding of digital trends anddevelopments; the person friends go to when they have questions about thelatest product or developments
Education, Personal Qualities and Special Training
●3-5 years of comparable product management,product strategy, or product marketing experience at a large consumer-facingtechnology company
●Success in delivering products from conceptthrough launch
●Ability to balance & manage multiple projectssimultaneously
●Experience with Agile and iterative productdevelopment processes and methodology
●Ability to lead and/or work withincross-functional virtual teams to drive internal consensus and common goals
●Ability to build strong support base for theirideas internally and externally
●Proven creative problem solving and innovativemindset
●Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
●Self-motivated worker with entrepreneurialpassion and ability to effectively multi-task
●Excellent knowledge of digital technologies andstrong grasp of digital trends
