Pearson is currently seeking a Senior Operations Engineerwho will be responsible for ensuring operationsare running smoothly. This includes escalating incidents from product supportstaff, service alerts (from monitoring systems), and reports and from internalemployees.

Based in Orion City, Colombo, you will haveadvanced experience in managing service issues and be able todetermine the severity, prioritize, and perform diagnosis ofsystem and software components to identify root cause, you will be confidentand able to recommend corrective action in order to resolve issues.

This positionrequires participation in participation of 24 by 5 daily shift operations andOn-Call rotation.

Key Deliverables :

  • Working with diverse web-based applications and learningmanagement systems in a production, mission critical environment diagnosingcomplex user, application and/or systems problems

  • Acquiring a deep understanding of Pearson platforms at theoperational level to become the subject matter expert for other departmentsincluding product management, engineering, product support and others

  • Responding to unplanned incidents and developing means to reducedowntime and minimize customer impact. This position requires participationin On-Call rotation

  • Mentoring other staff members in on-call troubleshooting andresponsibilities

  • Working with various teams to prepare for supporting new and/orhighly integrated products and platforms

  • Writing excellent documentation to enable other team members andto aid new hire training to easily learn and support our platforms

  • Monitoring the daily operations of the enterprise applicationenvironment by analyzing information and recommending short and long-termresolutions to issues including the creation and maintenance of scripts andautomation tools

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively multi-taskon a variety of daily work assignments in a challenging, fast-paced workenvironment

  • Excellent oral and writtenbusiness communication, organizational and time management skills

  • Experience with documentation ofcomplex issues, processes, procedures

  • Strong analytical andproblem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in Windows andLinux environments

  • Ability to decipher detaileddeployment plans

  • Experience scheduling andpreparing appropriate resources to participate in deployments

  • Capacity to identify areas forcontinuous improvement with processes, tools, and training, based on businessneeds and company growth

  • Creative problem solving skills

  • 5 years of experience, BS incomputer science or other technical discipline

  • ITIL Foundations Certified
