As the Community Relationship Manager (CRM) you will be focused on driving more adult learners to take the GED test and participate in GED preparation programs in California (with focus in the Los Angeles and San Diego, and San Francisco’s East Bay areas).

The CRM will build and strengthen relationships with programs directors, teachers and staff in adult education/GED prep programs who are key influencers in a student’s decision on whether a student participates in the GED program, or takes an alternative high school equivalency test.

The CRM will also be responsible for building and strengthening relationships in California in order to raise visibility, enhance the reputation of the GED program, and ensure we are seen as an important partner in building the workforce and enhancing the lives of adult learners. These relationships will be important to increasing participation in the GED program by learners, and the investment in the program by community leaders, local elected officials and policymakers.

Some of the work in this role includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Execute, adjust and evaluate engagement plans with key audiences to drive testing volume and the number of Californians earning a GED credential.

  • Build and strengthen relationships with GED prep program directors/staff/teachers, including monthly touchpoints, calls, and several in-person visits each year. Communicate the value, benefits, feature of the GED program, as well as the outcomes of GED graduates.

  • Work to set-up testing centers and GED preparation in the LA Unified School District – one of the largest concentrations of adult learners in the country with no easy access to the GED program or GED testing.

  • Identify ways to integrate the GED program into local initiatives, programs and agendas of local elected officials, policymakers and community organizations. Develop metro-area specific initiatives and partnerships to increase GED program visibility and increase the number of learners in the GED program.

  • Meet with and educate local elected officials and policymakers, and understand their motivations and programs/initiatives they are championing.

  • Help develop and distribute content (news stories, student success stories, etc.,) in each metro market, in partnership with the communications manager. This will involve pushing monthly content to stakeholders via email, utilizing social media, etc.

  • Keep the pulse of GED program visibility and sentiment regularly and provide information and feedback to GEDTS leaders on the state of the brand, sentiment and any suggestions for program refinement.

  • Assist in promoting professional development resources to educators, and in time (with training) help deliver high-level professional development around teaching and content strategies related to preparing students for the GED test at meetings and conferences.

  • Work with the Sr. Director and the California SRM to collaborate with, and keep informed, Pearson Corporate Affairs and account management staff who have work in California as well.

This is an exciting time to be working on GED-related activities in California as the connection between education and workforce programs has never been more critical to the State’s economic competitiveness. And, GED graduates are showing significantly more success in entering the workforce and enrolling in and earning credentials in post-secondary career and college training programs.

The CRM will also be a member of the national SRM team, work closely with the statewide California SRM and report directly to the Sr. Director of State Accounts and Government Relations. Being a great communicator and collaborator is an essential skill in this position.


Education and Experience:

  • Must have a four-year/Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in growing and maintaining relationships in the education or workforce development, or similar, sector. Must be able to form relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills – can communicate effectively one on one or when presenting to small and large groups

  • Experience with the sales process and soft-selling skills.

  • Have a solid work ethic. Must have drive and passion for his/her work, have persistence and can work independently and as part of a team.

  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and handle details while tracking with the larger strategic goals and objectives. Can manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

  • Must be proficient in working with Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets, PowerPoint.

  • Spanish-language skills are highly desirable

Travel: Roughly 10% out-of-state, and approximately 50% local/travel within California.
