Mobile Accessibility Specialist


Pearson is seeking a Mobile Accessibility Specialist to join a strong team of User Experience designers, prototypers and researchers who are building the next generation of learning applications. This position will be responsible for doing accessibility reviews of native mobile, mobile web and desktop web applications, as well as providing code samples to developers when necessary. Knowledge of both general usability and accessibility specific usability problems is required. Also, an understanding of accessibility guidelines such as th W3C WCAG, W3C mobility mapping (...), ADA Section 508 as well as Pearson’s specific accessibility guidelines, will also be required to complete assigned work.

High Level Responsibilities

  • Organize requirements and work with developers to ensure that guidelines are followed and requirements are met in production applications

We’re looking for someone who is ready to take their in-depth knowledge of accessibility and usability in both mobile and desktop environments to help Pearson ensure that all users have the best experience possible. You should be passionate about accessibility and be ready to work with a wide variety of geographically distributed teams. Experience working with assistive technologies in iOS, Android, Windows and Mac OS X is required.

  • Review native mobile and mobile web applications for accessibility

  • Review desktop web applications for accessibility

  • Review ePub 3 documents for accessibility

  • Provide code samples and suggestions in either Java, Objective C, Swift, C#, JavaScript, HTML/CSS or any other language that is applicable to the given project

  • Work with other accessibility professionals at Pearson to maintain standards and evangelize accessibility for mobile applications


  • Understanding of:

  • W3C WCAG 2.0

  • ADA Section 508

  • Understanding of mobile accessibility related issues

  • Knowledge of accessibility related software, such as

  • VoiceOver

  • Switch Control

  • TalkBack

  • Dragon

  • NVDA

  • Windows Eyes



  • JavaScript

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively and work in a distributed, remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Java

  • Participation in standards orgs such as the IDPF or W3C
