As a Java Software Developer, you will be responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and unit testing in a high-performing, experienced team. You will use industry best practices while working on high-quality full stack solutions in a collaborative, agile, results driven environment across a diverse set of business areas: client management, channel technologies, results processing, and incidents management. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing and supporting mission-critical Java Applications. This position is a key role for the team driving the Application Performance Management and production support of our suite of applications. In this role, you will be a part of a highly collaborative team continually working on a variety of complex and challenging projects.

The Software Developer will:

  • Application Performance Management -- Perform analysis and Performance tuning of the suite of Java apps using a Splunk, NewRelic and other system performance management tools.

  • Provide Production Support and Product Enhancements to a suite of Java applications within a full stack java development environment

  • Implement & Perform -- Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices; maintain and support mission-critical applications as necessary.

  • Analyze & Design -- Ensure business and requirements artifacts are created that effectively model the customer's requirements. Use tooling and best practices to create design models from requirements.

  • Review -- Participate in and lead requirement, design and code reviews

  • Test & Deployment -- Work closely with other teams (e.g., QA, configuration management, end users) to release high quality software. Create testable requirements and write and execute unit tests.

  • Quality/process improvement -- Participate in group improvement activities and initiatives to improve process and product quality in pursuit of excellence

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent technology experience

  • 4 years minimum Java development required

  • 3 years programmatic interaction with relational database systems

  • Current technology stack: Core Java, JPA, Hibernate, Web Services (REST/SOAP), AngularJS

  • Experience in OOAD, design patterns, SQL and UML

  • 2 years Production Support experience

Experience with some or all of the following tools (Required):

  • Java SE AND EE (4 years)

  • Spring framework (3 years)

  • Web Services (3 years)

  • REST services (2 years)

  • SQL (4 years)

  • AngularJS (and other Javascript frameworks)

  • Gauge and Selenium

  • Splunk

  • New Relic

Experience with some or all of the following tools (Desired):

  • JBOSS OR Tomcat

  • JPA

  • RabbitMQ or JMS

  • Hibernate

  • SOA

  • Swing

  • OOAD design

  • Agile development (2 years)

  • Design patterns

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in Application Performance Management and Load Testing technologies

  • Experience in Customer Service and User Support

  • Experience in software architecture

  • Experience in creating design documents, performing code reviews and test driven development

  • Desire to expand knowledge in many development languages, applications, and tools

  • Proven ability to quickly learn new processes and tools, business domains and technical applications

  • Ability to think technically and analytically

  • Must assimilate information, distill knowledge, apply experience and provide solution alternatives and recommendations
